Nathan Phillips Square
What do you give the city that has everything?

Well, if you are a former mayor Nathan Phillips and you want to thank the people who supported your time in office, you present them with a giant bronze sundial.

The Sundial is located just north of the Peace Garden and was donated by former Mayor Phillips to the city in 1969 . It was designed by Engineer and Geophysicist G.R. Johnson in consultation with  City Property Commissioner H.H. Rogers and architect John C. Parkin.

The bronze sculpture stands 2.4 meters tall and is inscribed with the words: “In appreciation of the opportunity to serve.” A classic gift from a classy mayor.
